Birmingham Primary School - $6.4 million
Thursday 6 October 2022
Students at Birmingham Primary School will finally get access to a modern, state-of-the-art multi-purpose school stadium under a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government.
Birmingham Primary School in Mt Evelyn is one of the biggest local primary schools with over 700 students. It currently has no indoor space that can accommodate all teachers and staff in one central location, impacting the school’s ability to conduct all-school assemblies, sports activities or concerts.
That’s why a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $6.4 million to fund the construction of a new multipurpose facility for sports and performing arts including:
• a competition grade gymnasium
• a kitchen and canteen,
• changerooms, and
• storerooms.
Liberal Member for Evelyn, Bridget Vallence, said she was elated to make this desperately needed investment at Birmingham Primary School.
“We’ve listened to the staff and parents who have consistently outlined how much Birmingham Primary needs an indoor stadium, especially for assemblies and activities during summer and winter months to protect the children.”
“Not only will the students be able to have access to state-of-the-art facilities for sport and performing arts, but the entire school community, including parents, teachers and friends, will have a central facility to come together as one.”
“The new stadium will be able to be used for school assemblies, concerts, presentation nights and any other school activities. There are also opportunities to use the stadium as a hub for other local community events or as emergency shelter during severe storm events or bushfires.”
“This $6.4 million in funding for Birmingham Primary School is all part of my plan to ensure our local schools and children have the educational facilities they deserve.”
